Difficile de commencer une chronique avec un album comme celui-là. Il faut plusieurs écoutes pour vraiment se rendre compte du monde qu'est cet album! Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas, l'écoute est très déroutante, mais à force, l'auditeur se rend compte de l'identité de Swallow The Sun. Glacial, sombre, lumineux, beauté dangereuse, mélancolique, triste, brutalité; un voyage vers un monde glacial où la tristesse est décrite avec beaucoup de panache. Chaque morceau est différent, chaque morceau a sa propre identité, formant ensemble un album solide et que l'ont peut qualifier de chef d'oeuvre. C'est d'un romantisme noir glacé. Deux chansons sont plus brutales que les autres : These Hours of Despair et No Light, No Hope. The Justice of Suffering est ma préférée de l'album. Je ne sais que dire... Swallow The Sun inclut des claviers pour accentuer la mélancolie, et c'est fait d'une manière subtile. Des passages surprenants comme le final de Don't Fall Asleep ou le long instrumental de Doomed to walk the Earth et Too cold for tears.

L'album Hope est tout simplement à écouter et à ré écouter, encore et encore. Car même après plusieurs écoutes, il reste encore beaucoup de choses à découvrir de cet album. Pour bien écouter l'album, il faut se mettre dans les conditions : seul, dans une pièce un peu sombre, fermer les yeux et se laisser aller dans le voyage glacial et mélancolique de Hope.

Les albums de Swallow The Sun sont tous à classés dans chef d'oeuvre. On ne dirait pas que je fais une chronique d'un groupe de metal et pourtant si, c'est un autre visage du metal, tout en gardant la lourdeur caractéristique du Doom ainsi que certains thèmes. Ainsi que la présence importante de Chant growlé; mais il y a beaucoup de chant clair qui accentue cet album glacial et surprenant.
Ce troisième opus est probalement leur meilleur et le plus équilibré de tous.

2. These Hours of Despair


Une des chansons les plus brutales de l'album. C'est l'histoire d'un homme qui a perdu son amour à cause de lui-même, de son obscurité et de sa colère. On peut supposer qu'il l'a noyé dans une rivière. Mais il va tout faire pour la rejoindre au-delà la Mort.

3. The Justice of Suffering


Vidéo avec des extraits de Tristan + Isolde. La chanson et le film vont bien ensemble.

Probablement, l'une des meilleures chansons de l'album. Lorsque j'ai écouté cette chanson, c'était la première que j'écoutais du StS et elle m'a envoutée.

Le personnage aime une femme mais elle est avec un autre et il ne peut pas le supporter, et il veut qu'ils souffrent comme il souffre. Il veut la récupérer par le biais de la justice de la souffrance. Je pense que au fond par cette justice, il les tuera par cette folie que l'amour peut donner.

" the night will end
it will end in tears soon" montre le thème de la nuit qui représente la tristesse, et que le personnage aura sa revanche par le biais de la souffrance et des pleurs.

5. Too Cold For Tears


Un parfait exemple de cette profonde mélancolie hivernale qui plane sur l'album. Toujours cette sensation de solitude et tristesse dans cet univers glacial. La mélodie ainsi que l'aternance du Growl/Chant clair contribue à cet effet mélancolique.

7. No Light, No Hope


Le personnage a perdu son amour et il va se venger. Il a perdu la lumière et donc l'espoir, il ne vit qu'avec le désespoir en quelque sorte. C'est l'une des chansons les brutales de l'album Hope.

8. Doomed To Walk The Earth


Dernier morceau de cet excellent opus. Doomed to Walk the Earth nous replonge encore plus loin dans la mélancolie hivernale par des riffs pachydermiques et une ambiance sombre. Une superbe chanson qui clotûre à merveille l'album.
